About the Artist
Hi! I’m Xander, a multimedia interdisciplinary artist based out of Boston, MA. I graduated from Hampshire College with a degree in studio art and psychology in May 2025. My work explores themes of play, nostalgia, queerness, and transformation with an emphasis on sensory and personal interaction. I feel most at home creating in the space between fine art and craft, and enjoy making work that is interactive and can serve a function in daily life, like the accessories I sell as Plastic Object.
I have experience with a diverse array materials and I enjoy working in mixed media to give myself an opportunity to explore many different making processes. My favorite things to make currently are wearable art (check out my jewelry portfolio) and small sculpture (polymer clay and soft sculpture/doll making), but I also enjoy printmaking, design, illustration, and textile crafts such as sewing and embroidery.
In 2023 I started selling my art and jewelry under the moniker Plastic Object. I started out with just a few pairs of beaded lizard earrings and some hand printed patches, but quickly expanded my inventory to include bespoke necklaces, charm bracelets, clay earrings with fish motifs, upcycled toy keychains, polymer clay sculptures, and more detailed beadwork. I mostly sell through local markets and love meeting and interacting with customers and fellow artists. I also sell my wares through consignment at the Holbrook Store in Cundys Harbor, ME, and Mixed Nuts Co-Op at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA.
