Dreamscape depicts a colorful, tactile, whimsical world - the type of world I used to dream of as a child. This semester I spent a lot of time playing with and exploring materials that held ties to childhood for me, like cardboard, beads, and textile, as well as materials I used to aspire to, like glass and crochet, both mediums that fascinated yet eluded me as a child. The creation of this piece confronted the limiting beliefs I have internalized as a child around what constitutes ‘good’ art by diving into methods of making that I once told were not good or professional enough to be art. Dreamscape transforms discarded and donated materials to create a beautiful, joyful environment that functions as a love letter to my inner child.
